IMPULSION

Impulsion is the feeling that the horse develops the same amount of energy without increasing speed.

Impulsion is a state of mind.

The horse must be kept interested in what he is doing, and he will increase impulsion.
Keep your horse's mind fresh.
Always keep your horse alert and reactive. Do not let him fall asleep.

When thinking "impulsion", think straightness, submissiveness, posture (neck of horse, collection) and energetic movement.
Impulsion is to feel the horse's tail come between your hands.

Before any exercise or change in gait, always check impulsion and increase it (I.e.: increase the nervous response of the horse before asking for an extended trot).
When an exercise is asked for when the horse has impulsion, it becomes easy: indicate what you want and let the horse do it.
A horse should work in a constant frame, posture, rhythm and vibration as long as possible without the rider having to intervene.
Lots of problems arise from lack of impulsion, and are resolved by increasing impulsion.

Increase impulsion and at the first sign of stiffening, decrease it a little.

Obtain the highest degree possible of impulsion that does not interfere with real relaxation.
